TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A project that s been two years in the making is now being utilized by firefighters.
This new addition to the Honey Creek Fire Department will help save lives!
The Honey Creek Fire Department s training tower has finally been unveiled! This facility will not only help the firefighters but also the community they serve. The property was originally being used as a fuel stop for Vigo County school buses.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) A two-year long process is complete offering firefighters at Honey Creek Fire Department the chance to hone their skills at a new training facility.
This new facility will allow firefighters to simulate rescues and live burns as well as train in other areas that are crucial in their position. New recruit Gregory Slaton believes this facility will provide he and his station the opportunity to stay on their toes.
“A lot of stuff we don’t we don’t do on the daily even guys that are our chiefs that have been doing this for 20 plus years, it can be months in between certain things that we do,” Slaton said. “No one here knows everything. It’s always good to sharpen your skills.”

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Fire departments in Vigo County will be able to use a new safety measure.
The Honey Creek Fire Department asked the commissioners for permission to use portable speed bumps.
Honey Creek Fire Chief Tom High said this could help protect emergency personnel working at incidents on county roads. When we re working accidents with law enforcement, we have all the traffic ones, we have the signboards. Law enforcement has their lights and we re still not getting people to pay attention. They re either distracted or driving too fast, High said.

Carbon monoxide is a gas that is created when any fuel is burned.
So, when you turn your furnace on, start your car, or use a gas stove, carbon monoxide is released into the air. Other household appliances that create carbon monoxide are clothes dryers, water heaters, fireplaces, grills, generators, power tools, lawn equipment, and wood stoves.
I spoke with Jon Shackelford, the Battalion Chief at Honey Creek Fire Department in Terre Haute. He said even starting your car in the garage can quickly lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
