Two female-owned Salinas Valley farms are reaping the rewards of partnering with Los Altos resident Sheena Vaidyanathan’s Tera Farm.
An overabundance of kale prompted Los Altos resident Sheena Vaidyanathan to establish Tera Farm, a nonprofit enterprise that supports local farmers by directly connecting them to their customers.
“It started when I reached out to one of the farmers I knew,” Vaidyanathan said. “He gave me boxes of kale, and I had too much, so I wanted to share it with my friends, and in one hour we had sold all our kale. … The next week, people asked me for more vegetables, so I asked the farmer and then we ended up creating an order form, and then finally a full e-commerce website which is now Tera Farm.”
