The Amarillo Police Department released information regarding traffic stops conducted over the Memorial Day weekend.
The department received a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program grant from the Texas Department of Transportation, putting more officers on the streets for the holiday weekend. According to a previous release, officers were looking for intoxicated drivers, drivers violating the speed limit, anyone failing to wear a seatbelt and other traffic law violators.
From Friday through Monday, the department s motor squad and the DWI squad made 132 stops, issuing 177 citations and warnings, the release states. Over the weekend, five individuals were arrested for DWI and there were three other miscellaneous arrests.
Bernie Herman, 53, was not present Wednesday for a brief hearing on his case in Prince Albert provincial court. His lawyer was granted an adjournment to June 9.
