Burlington, Ia- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Des Moines County man on multiple charges.
On Wednesday, at approximately 11:35 p.m. a Des Moines County Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of 118th St. and Highway 99. The vehicle then fled to 9424 118th St. The driver was then apprehended and identified as 53-year-old Roger Bernard Steffensmeier.
Steffensmeier had an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear on Methamphetamine charges.
Steffensmeier was arrested on his outstanding warrant along with new charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Carrying Weapons, and Eluding a Peace Officer.

Burlington, Ia- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for a Burlington man for Sexual Abuse charges.
On October 10, 2020, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Punta Gorda Police Department in Florida in reference to a sexual assault that happened in Des Moines County, IA between 2012 and 2018. Detectives with the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office began to investigate the sexual assault allegation.
Detectives were advised that, 72-year-old Nelson Percy Stegall, of Burlington, Ia (Above) was the suspect and that he was already in custody in Florida where he was charged with engaging in an act which constituted sexual battery by, upon, or with a child 12 years of age or older but younger than 18 years of age by a person in familial or custodial authority.

Burlington, Ia- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Sperry man on sexual assault charges.
On August 18, 2020, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a sexual assault that had taken place at 9382 Sperry Rd. The alleged incident took place between 2015 and 2018 with the victim being a child under the age of 12. The child reported being inappropriately touched by 72-year-old Kenneth Albert Crews of Sperry, Ia.
On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, after an investigation, Crews was placed under arrest for Lascivious acts with a child.

Burlington, Ia- An inmate at the Des Moines County Jail has been charged with assault after attacking a corrections officer. According to the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 9:12 PM Saturday, April 10th, deputies responded to the Des Moines County Correctional Facility in reference to an assault of a correctional officer. When deputies arrived, they learned that 36-year-old Samuel D. Moyer of Burlington had assaulted a uniformed correctional officer and destroyed a jail security camera. Moyers was charged with Assault on a Correctional Officer and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief. Moyer remains at the Des Moines County Jail on a $56,000 bond.
