Blue Jays George Springer to debut Wednesday vs Nationals

By Zac Wassink  |  Last updated 4/28/21 Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer has, for the most part, been out of action for over a month as he worked to recover from a strained left oblique muscle and, later, a right quadriceps strain.  The 2017 World Series Most Valuable Player who joined Toronto via a six-year contract worth $150 million this offseason will make his official Blue Jays debut Wednesday night.  Per Keegan Matheson of the MLB website, Springer will serve as Toronto s designated hitter and bat leadoff for Wednesday s matchup against the Washington Nationals. The three-time All-Star told reporters he s excited to join his teammates, even if only as a hitter on the first night.

Top 5 Draft picks in Astros history

share-square-60527 HOUSTON Only one player in Astros history was drafted and developed by the club and made the Hall of Fame wearing an Astros cap on his plaque: Craig Biggio. Biggio is clearly the best homegrown MLB Draft pick in club history, having set the franchise record for games played, hits, doubles and many other categories in his 20 years in Houston. He was the first player with an Astros cap on his plaque to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Longtime teammate Jeff Bagwell, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017, came to Houston via a lopsided trade with Boston in 1990.

George Springer top moments with Astros

share-square-607041 HOUSTON Take a deep breath, Astros fans. George Springer is now an ex-Astro, having agreed to sign with the Blue Jays (according to a source) following seven memorable seasons with Houston. Springer, a former first-round Draft pick, blossomed into one of the most productive and popular players in club history, culminating with winning the 2017 World Series Most Valuable Player Award. Along the way, the high-flying outfielder made three American League All-Star teams, won two Silver Slugger Awards and made countless breathtaking catches in the outfield. Springer ranks fifth all-time in franchise history in home runs with 174, sixth in OPS at .852 and is tied with Jim Wynn for fifth in adjusted OPS+ at 131. His legacy in the Astros’ record books is secure as he moves onto another club.
