Nationals Stephen Strasburg to return, face Orioles Friday By Zac Wassink  |  Last updated 5/20/21 Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg will try to again successfully start his season ahead of the Memorial Day holiday.  Per an ESPN story, Washington manager Dave Martinez told reporters on Thursday that Strasburg will return from the injured list and take the bump for Friday s matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. The three-time All-Star who earned 2019 World Series Most Valuable Player honors made two appearances last month but went on the IL in mid-April with right shoulder inflammation and hasn t pitched since. It was the latest setback for the 32-year-old, who tallied a pair of starts during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign before he was shut down with nerve issues in his throwing hand.

Blue Jays George Springer likely out past next week By Zac Wassink  |  Last updated 5/6/21 Toronto Blue Jays three-time All-Star outfielder George Springer missed almost the entire first month of the season due to a strained left oblique muscle and, later, a right quadriceps strain, but debuted April 28 as a designated hitter.  After only four games, however, Springer aggravated his quadriceps and returned to the injured list retroactive to Monday. Ahead of Thursday s matchup at the Oakland Athletics, Toronto general manager Ross Atkins told reporters the 2017 World Series Most Valuable Player likely won t return May 13.  I would expect it would take more than just the IL stint, Atkins said of Springer s status, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). There s a chance I m wrong, but based on the information that I have right now, I would expect that it would take longer than that IL stint.
