4,718 people currently in quarantine over COVID-19 in Laos - World News

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control under the Lao Ministry of Health, Sisavath Soutthaniraxay, told a press conference here that 4,718 people are currently in quarantine at 36 accommodation centers across Laos. The health ministry urged related authorities countrywide to continue closely monitoring the new arrivals in the Southeast Asian country in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. People entering Laos will be sent to quarantine centers for a 14-day observation.

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control under the Ministry of Health Sisavath Soutthaniraxay told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday that people countrywide must strictly comply with COVID-19 prevention measures including wearing face masks when leaving homes, practicing frequent hand-washing with soaps or hand gels, and keeping a social distance. The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control reported that it has been monitoring 4,697 people at 36 accommodation centers across the country.

Laos: Disaster management body calls for better coordination as govt records imported Covid-19 case

VIENTIANE, March 13 (Vientiane Times/ANN): The National Disaster Management Committee will improve coordination between central and local authorities, to better prepare for disaster responses including post-disaster needs assessments. The topic was discussed at a meeting of the committee recently which was led by the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare and committee Vice Chairman, Dr Khampheng Saysompheng. Also present were deputy ministers and other officials. Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Planning and Investment, and Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, Dr Sonexay Siphandone, said it was important to reduce the risks faced by communities and to develop a nationwide system that would help mitigate the effects of disasters.
