BT and Royal Mail have asked the Government to prioritise their engineers and postal workers for Covid vaccinations after the most vulnerable have had their jabs, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.
It is understood that Royal Mail executives along with representatives of BT s infrastructure arm, Openreach, have called on Westminster to allow their thousands of employees to be pushed towards the front of the queue for injections.
The Communication Workers Union – which represents the employees of both companies – has called for the Government to publish a plan for vaccination.

Royal Mail has reported a group revenue increase of 2%, driven by a “good performance” over Christmas.
In a trading update issued today (18 January) for the nine-month period ended 24 December 2017, the group said revenues in its UK Parcels, International & Letters (UKPIL) division were flat, with parcel revenue – which increased by 4% – offsetting total letter revenue, which was down by 3%.
Parcel volumes grew by 6% over the first three quarters, with 149 million handled over the December trading period alone, while addressed letter volumes fell by 5%.
The group’s European parcels business General Logistics Systems (GLS) saw both volume and revenue increases of 10%. Revenue growth was achieved in all of its main markets, with continued strong growth in Italy, while good growth was also seen in Denmark and Eastern Europe.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has vowed to challenge the retrenchment of some 300 workers at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

LONDON: A British Indian postal worker has been awarded nearly 230,000 pounds as compensation and loss of earnings after an employment tribunal in the UK accepted his claim of harassment and discrimination on the grounds of race and religion.
Mathan Shunmugaraja had taken his former employer, Royal Mail, to the tribunal over unfair dismissal and allegations that despite being a Hindu he was mistaken for a Muslim and was called a sly dog by a former colleague.
