The Mississippi Center for Autism and Related Developmental Disabilities is hosting a summer enrichment fun day this Friday.
The children at the facility can look forward to enjoying an egg spoon race, potato sack race, face painting, and water slides.
The fun day event was inspired by one of the clients at the facility who expressed wanting to get an opportunity to play games outside with their peers.
Carmen Payton, registered behavioral technician at the facility, tells News 25 this is a way to get the kids out and enjoy a sense of normalcy. “We wanted to do something special for our clients. Our clients have dealt with a lot of adjustments this year with interruption of school, therapy service, and just COVID in general. So, we just wanted to have a day where they could have fun.”
Today marks the start of World Autism Month with United Nations sanctioning World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd. Throughout the month, people focus on sharing stories and providing opportunities to increase the understanding and acceptance of people with autism, fostering worldwide support. D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (WLOX) - The Mississippi Center For Autism and Related Developmental Disabilities has five new iPads, thanks to C-Spire. The center will use these iPads in therapy sessions to increase communication for autistic children who are nonverbal.
Center workers said the iPads are kid friendly and have lots of teaching tools on them.
