5 Most VPNs Downloaded by UAE Residents Published January 6th, 2021 - 11:30 GMT According to the latest data shared by Atlas, VPN application downloads amounted to 5.58 million in the UAE with residents spending around $3.852 million (Dh14.14 million) to buy virtual private networks in 2020. Highlights The UAE topped in the number of VPN users followed by Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. There are around four dozen different virtual private networks (VPNs) downloaded by the UAE residents in 2020 with top five most popular VPN apps commanding two-third of the market share.   The most downloads went to one of the leaders in the market, NordVPN, which received 17.1 per cent of total downloads at 953,980. The trend has seen more companies including those that are in the business of courier services reaping benefits of being online as more people subscribe for digital services. According to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz)’s third quarter 2020 report, mobile internet and data traffic has risen by about 43 percent. The jump in internet and data usage, said the authority, is an indicator of a huge shift from the conventional communication modes to digital means of doing business.

TRA holds 8th edition of ‘Sada Al Barq’ DUBAI, 30th December, 2020 (WAM) The 8th edition of ‘Sada Al Barq’ exercise for the National Emergency Telecommunication Plan, organised virtually by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has concluded. It was attended by telecom service providers in the UAE including Emirates Telecommunication Group Company (Etisalat), Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du) and Al Yah Satellite Communication Company (Yahsat). This exercise comes under the framework of the initiative Telecom business continuity in emergency, crisis and disaster , which serves TRA’s strategic goal in the UAE and helps implement a regulatory framework that stimulates competition and develops the quality of services provided.
