KOCHI: In a big step towards scientifically disposing of plastic waste and waste generated from slaughterhouses and construction/demolition sites, Kerala government has allotted two acres of land at Kadungalloor in the district for setting up a solid waste treatment plant.
An order dated December 29, 2020, issued by the state has allotted the said land to a private firm identified as SeaQueen Environmental Solutions Pvt Ltd for a period of 30 years.

‘Fish landing centre in Thoothukudi built without CRZ clearance’
The State is not above the law if there are violations committed in a project implemented by it, the Southern Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has said.
A violator has to face the consequences if any law is violated, it said, hearing a case against the construction of a fish landing centre of the Fisheries Department at Singithurai in Thoothukudi.
The report of a joint committee, which was submitted to the NGT, pointed to the violations in the construction of the fish landing centre in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) area without the necessary clearance under the CRZ Notification, 2011, and also in the laying of a concrete road, which was prohibited in the location.

Bengaluru, Jan 6 : Four districts in southern Karnataka bordering Kerala have been put on alert following the outbreak of bird flu (H5N8) in the neigbouring coastal state, an official said on Wednesday. We have put four districts bordering Kerala on alert and taken steps to prevent the bird flu spread from the adjacent state though no case of the disease has been reported in Karnataka so far, a state animal husbandry department official told IANS here.

HYDERABAD : The decks have been cleared for the construction an ultra-modern Secretariat building, with the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) according environmental clearance for the project on Thursday.
The approval came after the State government had submitted to the Centre that 27 trees would have to be relocated as they happen to be in the area where the Secretariat complex will come up. It had informed the Centre that there are 607 trees in total on the premises but no clearing, pruning or cutting any of these would be required, barring the 27 which will be translocated within the area.
