Congress attacks Fadnavis over his accusations against BMC
Days after former chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis accused the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) of hiding the actual number of deaths of novel coronavirus patients in the city, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant on Monday praised the civic body for the Mumbai model of COVID-19 management.
Mr. Kant tweeted, “Centralized bed allotment, anticipating oxygen storage facilities, common allotment of beds even in pvt hospitals, dashboards for monitoring, war rooms for patient follow up. Inspirational Mumbai model of Covid Mngmnt. Congrats @mybmc commissioner Chahal & his Gr8 team.”
The Congress was quick to react. “Mr. Fadnavis had to hear the truth from the horse’s mouth. After the Prime Minister, now the NITI Aayog CEO too has told him the truth. This is the reality that he should realise,” Maharashtra Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant said.
Maharashtra records less than 50,000 new COVID-19 cases; 60,226 patients discharged in a day
Maharashtra is continuing to see a decline in its daily COVID-19 numbers. According to the Union Health Ministry, the state is showing early signs of plateauing. On Sunday, the state recorded 48,401 new cases, taking the number of active cases to 6,15,783. Besides, 572 COVID-19 fatalities were registered in the day, taking the death toll to 75,849.
60,226 patients were discharged in the day, taking the tally to 44,07,818. The recovery rate in the state stands at 86.4%. The case fatality rate in the state is 1.49%.

Mumbai: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has advised BJP leaders and party cadres to not indulge in politics and publicity gimmicks in the present pandemic but instead, work tirelessly to help the needy. At a virtual interaction with party office bearers from Nagpur, Gadkari said, âDon t do politics. Donât put up hoardings or flags or publicise your work. If people sense political gimmickry, they wonât appreciate it from the heart. You, as well as the party will automatically get credit for your work. Because of the media, it reaches everyone. Donât try to publicise the supply of one oxygen concentrator with four party workers. It will create a bad impression about you.â
This comes after several cases of blackmarketing of Remdesivir came to light amid the COVID-19. There was a shortage of Remdesivir injection. Because of this, incidents of black marketing took place, several people lost their lives as they have not received Remdesivir, so we decided to increase its production, Gadkari said. But we tried (and to got manufacturing rights), Remdesivir will be provided to people at government s price. Now, I think there will be no black marketing or no person will die due to lack of it, there is no reservation, can be provided to other states when there will be surplus, he added.
