PH going green: CCC puts spotlight on local community stories of sustainability on Earth Day 2021

QUEZON CITY, April 26 (PIA)  Sustainable enterprises and organizations have gathered in an online conversation to showcase their programs and initiatives to reduce and eliminate single-use plastics, as part of the Earth Day 2021 Webcast held via Facebook Live on April 22. Hosted by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ruth Castelo, the segment featured advocates and practitioners on waste reduction and recycling from the business sector and civil society including Laarnie Rivera-Cancio of Back to Basics Ecostore; Jamico Jamlang of The Bamboo Company; Gloria Estenzo Ramos of Oceana Philippines; Nanette Medved-Po of Plastic Credit Exchange (PCEx); and Atty. Marc Cox of Coca-Cola Philippines.

Wrong move? Student group slams use of schools as COVID-19 vaccination sites

(JANSEN ROMERO / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) The National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP), in a statement issued April 11, slammed the Duterte administration for allowing the use of schools as vaccination sites for the government’s COVID-19 vaccination drive. In a statement issued on April 9, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) confirmed that it has signed an agreement with the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) for the close coordination and cooperation between higher education institutions (HEIs) and local government units (LGUs) in efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the the said agreement included the establishment of vaccination centers in campus facilities wherein at least 17 colleges and universities nationwide have rendered their facilities as additional vaccination centers in their respective localities.
