Responding to the recent New York Times report that estimated India s Covid death toll is much higher than the figures put out by the government, joint secretary of health ministry, Lav Agarwal, termed the NYT report baseless and false. This entire report is baseless and false. We don t know on what basis this estimation work was done. We have robust system in place, which states are following and reporting, added Lav Aggarwal.
Earlier on Wednesday, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan took on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after the former Congress president questioned the government s Covid-death figures citing a news report from a foreign media.
The Union Health Minister's reply came after Gandhi posted a tweet tagging a foregin media report that estimated India's Covid death was toll much higher than the official figures.

India ensured supply of medicines to 123 partner countries despite its own needs amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and has also been active in global efforts to develop diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines to tackle the infection, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Thursday.
He was speaking during a virtual interaction with the health ministers of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General, World Health Organisation was also present in the meeting.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], May 26 (ANI): The Uttarakhand division of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has sent Rs 1,000 crores defamation notice to yoga guru Ramdev for his recent statements on allopathy doctors and medicine.
In the notice, IMA said if the yoga guru does not post a video countering the statements given by him and tender a written apology within the next 15 days, then a sum of Rs 1,000 crores will be demanded from him.
IMA Uttarakhand unit President Dr Ajay Khanna said Ramdev does not have sound knowledge and is engaging in rhetorics.
