New Delhi, May 11 : Aimed to keep to at least those who received the first dose of vaccine safe from Covid, the Centre on Tuesday directed all the states to ensure a second dose for such beneficiaries, instructing them to reserve at least 70 per cent of the vaccines supplied to them from the government of India channel free of cost.
In a review meeting on the status of vaccination drive, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan highlighted the need to be followed by all states on urgent basis to address large number of beneficiaries waiting for the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

The Centre has asked States to prioritise those due for the second dose of a Covid vaccine.
At a virtual high-level review meeting attended by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, States were asked to reserve at least 70 per cent of the vaccines supplied to them for those due for the second dose (however, States have the option of expanding this to 100 per cent) and the balance 30 per cent for those waiting to get the first shot.
On the issue of pending payments by the States for vaccines, the States were advised to constitute a dedicated team to coordinate daily with the manufacturers and secure supplies from them. This team can also coordinate with private hospitals to facilitate procurement of vaccines and thereby maintain the momentum of the vaccination exercise in the State, the statement said.
NEW DELHI: The Centre appealed to states on Tuesday to prioritise vaccinating those due for second dose of Covid-19 vaccine and reserve at least 70 per cent of the shots supplied from the central pool for the purpose.
States have also been urged to minimise wastage of vaccine doses, the health ministry said in a statement.
All wastage more than the national average hereafter is to be adjusted from the subsequent allocations to that state or union territory.
The urgent need to address a large number of beneficiaries waiting for second dose of vaccine was stressed in a meeting held by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and Dr R S Sharma, the Chairman of Empowered Group on Technology and Data Management to Combat Covid-19, with state officials to review the status of Covid-19 vaccination on Tuesday.

New Delhi [India], May 9 (ANI): Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, the first meeting of the 12-member National Task Force set up by the Supreme Court to ensure that medical oxygen is delivered throughout the country in a streamlined manner through an effective and transparent mechanism was held on Sunday, sources said. All the National Task Force members commended the significant work done by Ministries and Departments of Government of India in augmenting the oxygen production capacities as well as in ensuring its efficient distribution, sources told ANI.
The task force members also provided specific suggestions on increasing oxygen production and availability, managing the demand side of medical oxygen, and parameters on which individual health facilities could ensure economy in the use of medical oxygen, sources said.
Five critical areas of action were discussed for addressing the needs and challenges of the recent phase of the COVID 19 pandemic in these states, which have seen an unprecedented surge in the number of daily cases and increased mortality.
