Enforce COVID-appropriate behaviour, plan response in advance for next 3 weeks: Centre to UTs
NEW DELHI: The Centre on Tuesday advised all union territories to ensure strict enforcement of COVID-appropriate behaviour along with restrictions on movement and large gatherings, an official statement said.
The UTs were also asked to ramp up testing and augment hospital infrastructure while planning COVID response measures in advance for the next three weeks, the Union health ministry said in its statement.
The measures were suggested at a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla along with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, and attended by chief secretaries of all UTs, to review the COVID-19 situation and the response strategy, it said.

The Centre told all union territories (UTs) to ramp up testing for COVID-19 and plan their containment strategies for the next three weeks in advance because Phase 3 of vaccination would be critical in the fight against the viral disease.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a meeting of all high-level officials, top experts and ministers, decided to allow vaccination to all above the age of 18 from May 1. The new vaccination rule will help India vaccinate at a record pace, Modi said.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla today held a high-level review meeting to assess the Status of COVID-19 situation in the country and steps taken to contain the spread of infections and the state of other public health measures in all the Union Territories (UTs).
The government in an official statement said, “Bhalla, along with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, chaired a high-level meeting to review and discuss the COVID-19 status, and the management and response strategy with chief secretaries of all the UTs of India.”
According to it the meeting, held through video conference, was also attended by Member NITI Aayog Dr V K Paul, Director General ICMR Dr Balram Bhargava and Director Generals (DGs) of Police of all the UTs.

New Delhi [India], April 20 (ANI): Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review and discuss the response strategy and management of COVID-19.
The meeting was held via video conferencing and attended by Dr V K Paul, Member (Health) NITI Aayog, Dr Balram Bhargava, Secretary, DHR and DG ICMR, the chief secretaries and DGPs of all the Union Territories of India.
The Home Secretary pointed out the steep growth in the number of cases all across the country.
