Central Ohio health departments to start public COVID vaccinations

Some central Ohioans may soon be able to sign up for their first of two COVID-19 shots as local health departments move into another phase of vaccinations next week. But a limited number of doses may mean some will wait longer to get their first dose of the vaccine, health department leaders told The Dispatch.  Columbus Public Health expects to receive around 600 doses for the first week of Phase 1B, while Franklin County Public Health is planning to get 500 doses for week one of the next phase. Phase 1B, which includes Ohioans age 65 and older, teachers and people with severe pre-existing conditions, is set to begin Jan. 19.

The vaccines will be administered at: Bradford County Senior Center, 1805 North Temple Ave., Starke Union County Health Department, 495 East Main Street, Lake Butler The schedule is as follows: Tuesday, Jan. 5: Union County, 1-4 p.m.

Officials with the Board of Education say they voted in an emergency meeting on Wednesday, December 30th to move all Union County Public Schools to Plan C starting January 4th. School Board leaders say during this time they plan to assess coronavirus data that was reported over winter break. After consulting with the Union County Health Department, staff suggested moving all schools and office buildings to Plan C from January 4th to January 8th, according to a news release. Officials say Monday, January 4th is a Teacher Workday and schools will resume their normal class schedules remotely on Tuesday, January 5th, excluding Union County Early College students who will begin classes as scheduled on Monday, January 4th.

On Tuesday, Dec. 29, IDPH will hold a free testing event at the Union County Health Department in Anna from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. A second free testing event will be held at the Vienna Early Learning Center on Sunday, January 3 from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m.
