Deaths of women in Hillside NJ linked to death of man in Union: Officials

MyCentralJersey.com UNION COUNTY – The death of a 45-year-old Hillside man in Union Township is believed to be connected to the deaths of the mother of his children and her sister in Hillside, according to the Union County Prosecutor s Office. Early Monday morning Union Township police noticed a vehicle parked in the rear lot of an Enterprise Rent-A-Car facility in the 1700 block of Morris Avenue in Union Township. Officers discovered the body of Akanni A. Martin of Hillside inside the car and a weapon near his body, officials said. Martin had a gunshot wound to the head and foul play is not suspected, according to acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo.

Police on Monday morning found Martin shot in the head in a vehicle parked behind a rental car business in the 1700 block of Morris Avenue in Union Township, Ruotolo said.

Authorities are investigating after a 42-year-old man died on a Linden street Monday morning. Police responding to the 2000 block of East Saint Georges Avenue found Bruce Edward Ham, Jr., with injuries around 2 a.m., Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Linden Police Chief David Hart jointly announced Tuesday. Ham was pronounced dead at the scene. While the incident was initially reported as a pedestrian crash it was unclear how Ham sustained his injuries. Ruotolo s office did not immediately return Daily Voice s request for comment. This investigation is being led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Linden Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department.

Bruce Edward Ham Jr., of Elizabeth, was found about 2 a.m. in the 2000 block of East St. Georges Avenue in Linden. He was pronounced dead at the scene. In a joint statement acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Linden Police Chief David Hart said the death was under investigation. They did not speculate on a cause or manner of death. This investigation is being led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Linden Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department, Ruotolo and Hart said.
