Much too little, way too late
Dear Editor:
Last week a vice president from Brookfield Renewables the Canadian owners of the Ellsworth and Graham Lake dams made a statement to our community through an op-ed to the EA. This message comes after they have fought for over eight years to maintain the status quo of drawdowns at Graham Lake and horrific ongoing fish kills at the turbines. Now they are proposing that the community should be satisfied that they will “voluntarily” limit drawdowns for a few months next summer and if licensed provide safe upstream passage for salmon, eels, alewives and shad by 2035 as prescribed by federal agencies.
