McDONOUGH â Henry County s Class of 2021 will kick off commencement ceremonies starting Wednesday.
Each ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Atlanta Motor Speedway May 19-28. All graduations will be streamed on the districtâs YouTube channel at www.youtube.com and search Henry County Schools.
Families should enter the speedway parking lot from the main entrance on Tara Boulevard. Once parked, enter the through gates 13 and 14. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
Graduates will be seated on the field and family in the stands.

UNION GROVE â Peter Hansen, a business owner who rose to the highest levels of Racine County government, is being remembered as a selfless public servant.
Hansen, who served more than 30 years in local and county government, including as county board chairman and county executive, died April 27 at the age of 72 following a three-year battle with cancer.
In recognition of Hansenâs years of service, county officials are considering renaming the County Board meeting room as the the Peter L. Hansen Racine County Board Chambers.
Just two days before Hansen died, he was visited at his home in Union Grove by a whoâs who of Racine County politics, including County Executive Jonathan Delagrave, who told Hansen of the proposed renaming honor.

Just weeks after news came that Master P’s son Hercy Miller would be attending a Historically Black College and University, the son of another prominent Black celebrity has announced plans for a similar move as part of his athletic path.
Shaqir O’Neal, the youngest son of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, announced on his Instagram page Friday, April 30, that he will be attending Texas Southern University.
TSU is located in Houston, Texas, and is one of the largest HBCUs in the nation. It enrolls over 10,000 students annually, offering over 100 academic programs. Founded in 1947, the university became the first state-supported institution in Houston. Some of its most notable alumni include former NFL star Michael Strahan and gospel singer Yolanda Adams.
McDONOUGH â Union Grove High student Tyler Cook and Emily Mai, Community Christian School, have been named the STAR Student winners for Henry County.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the annual ceremony held at Eagleâs Landing Country Club was suspended this year. However, all STAR Students and STAR Teachers were recognized at their respective schools with a visit from school officials and members of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce.
Students earning the countyâs STAR Student designation represent the highest score on the SAT among finalists from each high school â public and private â in Henry County. This is the second year in a row that two students have tied for the top score. Unique to this yearâs slate of honorees is the three-way tie for one schoolâs â Luella High School â top SAT score.
