‘This will be due to enhanced domestic manufacturing’
India plans to bring down defence imports by $2 billion by the end of 2022, announced the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the Aero India 2021’s Bandhan – partnership signing ceremony. He said, the idea of cutting down on imports is to encourage domestic manufacture of defence related items. Between 2016 and 2019, 138 proposals worth over $37 billion have been approved for domestic manufacturing and they will pay off now in lower imports.
At Aero India, 128 MoUs were signed, 19 technology transfers (ToTs) finalised, four handing overs, 18 product launches and 32 major announcements were made, in all totalling over 200 proposals.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday outlined the government s twin visions of modernising its armed forces and becoming one of the biggest defence manufacturers while inaugurating the Aero India 2021. The event, held at Air Force Station Yelahanka, Bengaluru, is being touted as the world s first hybrid aerospace show.
On defence modernisation and exports We plan to spend $130 billion on defence modernisation in the next seven to eight years. Besides, there is a vision to make India one of the biggest defence manufacturers. We are aiming exports worth Rs 35,000 crore in aerospace, Singh said while addressing the event, the country s premier aerospace and defence exhibition.

Bengaluru, Feb 3 : Karnataka chief minister B. S. Yediyurappa on Wednesday subtly batted in favour of Bengaluru as the metropolis best suited to hold biennial Aero India Shows.
Delivering his speech at the 13th Aero India Show in presence of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the Yelahanka air base here, Yediyurappa said, I thank the union government for considering to hold this popular event amid pandemic fears. This is in a way affirmation of Karnataka s capabilities to hold events (Aero India) of this magnitude.

The 13th edition of the country’s premier air show – Aero India 21 is being held in the backdrop of Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) bagging a ₹48,000 crore order for fighter jets – Tejas Mark 1A and India’s engagement with Indian Ocean Region (IOR) countries.
The huge order is set to energise the host Karnataka’s aerospace ecosystem wherein HAL is anchoring 230 suppliers/vendors of which 180 are small and medium enterprises (SMEs) based in the State. The order is likely to generate 5,000 direct jobs and 25,000 jobs in allied services.

Benglauru, Feb 3 : Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said Aero India will give a boost to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi s clarion call of Aatmanirbhar Bharat scheme by signing as more than 200 agreements during an event- Bandhan (the bond) - on the last day of the biennial show on February 5.
