Lakshadweep newly-appointed administrator Praful Khoda Patel is in the middle of a political storm due to some of his recent decisions, which have caused discontent in the Muslim-majority islands. Mr. Patel has been accused of banning beef products in a place the meat is widely consumed, demolishing fishermen s sheds in coastal areas for violating the Coast Guard Act and revoking restrictions on the consumption of alcohol.

Sales of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) recovered in the January-March quarter with a 6 percent growth, but it declined 12 percent in 2020-21 on an overall basis.
While the liquor sales fell by a whopping 42 percent in Q1 of the last fiscal, it declined by 9 percent in Q2 and 1 percent in Q3, before showing a recovery of 6 percent in Q4.
Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh and Haryana were best performing states in terms of sales. The largest decline in liquor sales were observed in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh against previous years.
The total sales of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) products in 2020-21 was 305 million cases (9 litres each) which is nearly 12 percent below the previous year, according to the data compiled by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC).

Out of the two more bodies recovered, one was washed ashore at Magod Dungri in Valsad on Sunday. Before this, six bodies with life jackets were found from different places in the district in the last couple of days, the police said.

Two more bodies, suspected to be of victims a barge and a tugboat that sank due to cyclone Tauktae, have been found at the Valsad coast in Gujarat and the neighbouring Union Territory of Daman, police said on Monday. This has taken the total number of such bodies recovered in the past few days to eight.
