The All India NR Congress has bagged nine seats while the BJP won three and the NDA allies are leading on one seat each. The DMK has won three seats and is leading on one seat, while Congress has won two seats.
The Congress tied up with DMK, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), the CPM, the CPI and other small parties, while NR Congress was almost arm-twisted into an alliance with the BJP and the AIADMK.
The Congress has failed to regain its last bastion in the South as the NR Congress and its alliance partner, the BJP, were comfortably in the lead on Sunday and are poised to form the government in the erstwhile French colony of Puducherry.
New Delhi: The counting of votes for the Assembly elections began in the four states- Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Union Territory of Puducherry adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
While Assam and West Bengal saw multiple phases of polling, electors in Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu cast their votes in a single phase on April 6.
The exit polls for the four states and a Union Territory predicted a clear victory for DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, LDF retaining power in Kerala and BJP-led NDA in Assam and a tight contest in Bengal with several surveys giving an edge to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). In Puducherry, the polls predicted victory for NDA.
The results of the Assembly elections in four state states and one Union Territory (UT) are being declared. Mamata Banerjee's TMC looked set for a big win despite 10 years of anti-incumbency, while the BJP surged to retain power in Assam.
