Under the India-China agreement on the disengagement process in eastern Ladakh, the Chinese army will pull back its troops to east of Finger 8 areas in the northern bank of Pangong lake, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in Parliament on Thursday, in what is seen as a significant step to dial down tensions in the key face-off site.

New Delhi, Feb 11: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today made a statement in the Rajya Sabha on the India-China border row. Singh said that the multiple rounds of talks ensured that a plan was put in place to disengage at the North and South banks of Pangong Lake.

The House would recall that I had made a detailed statement on the developments in the India-China border areas in Eastern Ladakh during the last session in September last year. I had highlighted that the Chinese side had since April/May 2020 amassed large number of troops and armaments in the border areas adjacent to Eastern Ladakh.
