New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday morning flagged off eight trains which will connect Kevadiya in Gujarat where the Statue of Unity is located, with different parts of the country. One of the trains flagged off for Kevadia today originates at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station. It is a pleasant coincidence that today is the birth anniversary of MGR. His life was dedicated to the service of the poor, Modi said during the inauguration ceremony.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off eight trains connecting major destinations in various states of the country with the Statue of Unity in Gujarat s Kevadiya, via video-conferencing. The trains will connect Kevadiya to Varanasi, Dadar, Ahmedabad, Delhi s Hazrat Nizamuddin, Rewa, Chennai and Pratapnagar. These trains will facilitate seamless connectivity to the Statue of Unity. During the programme, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Dabhoi-Chandod Gauge converted Broad Gauge railway line, Chandod-Kevadiya new Broad Gauge railway line, newly-electrified Pratapnagar-Kevadiya section and the new station buildings of Dabhoi, Chandod and Kevadiya. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal were also present on the occasion.

New Delhi, Jan 15 : Even as the coronavirus pandemic halted most of the mail, express and passenger trains from operating across the country, the Indian Railways kept on providing fuel to the Khadi artisans by placing a purchase order worth Rs 49 crore with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), officials said on Friday.
A KVIC official privy to the development told IANS, Khadi activities received a major push during 2020 that largely remained affected due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
