Union Minister Piyush Goyal has said that 6,177 metric tonnes of oxygen has been finalized to be distributed to states. Maharashtra to get the biggest share of 1,500 metric tonnes of oxygen, Delhi to get 350 metric tonnes and Uttar Pradesh to get 800 metric tonnes, he added.

Amid shortage, the Central government on Sunday has prohibited the supply of oxygen for industrial purposes.
In a letter to all Chief Secretaries, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, has asked them to take all measures to prohibit the supply of oxygen for industrial purposes, except those exempted.

NEW DELHI:The Centre on Sunday banned the supply of oxygen for industrial purposes except in nine specified industries in view of shortage of the essential public health commodity in several states amid a spike in COVID-19 infections.

New Delhi [India], April 16 (ANI): Amid a sharp rise in the COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, along with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, will hold two different meetings with the government officials of the two states to discuss COVID measures.
Meanwhile, on the instructions of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a team of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will be reaching Lucknow today, which will build a COVID Hospital with a capacity of 250-300 beds and about 500-600 beds at two places. This work will be carried out in a mission mode in the next few days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for synergy between various ministries and State governments for ensuring smooth supply of medical grade oxygen. With Covid-19 cases surging, the Prime Minister on Friday reviewed with officials of the Health, DPIIT, Steel and Road Transport Departments the oxygen supply situation, particularly in the 12 worst-affected States, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. .
Modi urged officials to ensure seamless and free movement of tankers carrying oxygen.
According to an official statement, “the PM was informed that States and transporters have been asked to ensure tankers move round-the-clock with drivers working in shifts to ensure faster turnaround and adequate capacity to meet the surge in demand. Cylinder filling plants will also be permitted 24-hours working with necessary safeguards.”
