Udhagamandalam: It’s the rotten smell of garbage that has piled up on roadsides that welcomes one to the tourist town of Ooty. The garbage collection in the town had come to a standstill three days ago, with Ooty municipality workers boycotting work to register their protest against the delay in disbursing salary for the month of June. Now, all the streets in the town are dotted with piles of garbage.
On Monday, the municipality workers, including the sanitary workers, continued the protest in front of the municipal office for the fourth consecutive day. Later, a talk was held between the workers union and municipality authorities.
