Sales top $1 billion, but the state s marijuana economy faces federal tax code woes, crime, wildfires and lawmakers eager for revenue

Oregon recreational marijuana sales have climbed to record highs, but some say the industry s woes also have reached an apex. The difficulties range from an unfavorable federal tax code to a dangerous crime wave, wildfires, and cities and counties hungry for a larger slice of the tax pie. Businesses are still struggling, says Kim Lundin, executive director of the Oregon Cannabis Association. High sales don t transfer to overall industry success.
But the marijuana milestone $1.1 billion in sales in 2020, blowing past the $795 million benchmark set in 2019 has started a battle for cash at the state Capitol regardless.

GMM Pfaudler jumped 4.70% to Rs 4,418.70 after the company announced the acquisition of assets of HDO Technologies for a consideration of Rs 58.46 crore.
The company said that it had participated in the e-auction process for sale of assets (factory land, building, plant and machinery, office equipment, computers, furniture and fixtures, vehicles and capital work in progress) owned by HDO Technologies (in liquidation). It was declared as the successful bidder by the liquidator.
The acquired facility, spread over 11.9 acres with 7 manufacturing bays, is located in Vatva, Ahmedabad and is equipped to manufacture a wide range of heavy engineering equipment with a crane lifting capacity of 200 metric tonnes, deep-hole drilling (up to 1 meter) capabilities, plate rolling capabilities up to 110 milimeters, strip cladding capabilities, orbital welding capabilities, a 308.6 square meters clean room for fabrication of high alloy materials, vertical turret lathes and other machine tools.
The equity barometers once again slipped into the negative terrain and were hovering near the day s low in early afternoon trade. Metal and pharma stocks witnessed selling. Investors remained cautious ahead of U.S. Federal Reserve s two-day policy meeting which will conclude later in the day.
At 12:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, declined 119.13 points or 0.24% at 50,244.83. The Nifty 50 index lost 55.15 points or 0.37% at 14,855.30.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 1.13% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index slipped 0.78%.
The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 997 shares rose and 1,723 shares fell. A total of 167 shares were unchanged.
