The important crops i.e. wheat, rice, sugarcane, maize, and cotton account for 4.2 percent of country s GDP. This year, higher water availability and increased application of fertilizer during the Kharif season supported the increase in overall crop production. By 2029, the production of cotton, wheat, rice, maize, and sugarcane is projected to grow by 26%, 20%, 18%, 25%, and 10% respectively.
Pakistan is the 12th largest country of citrus producer with an annual production of 2.5 million Metric Tons (MT) and an expected growth at CAGR of 2% till 2024. In the past six years, fruit exports of Pakistan have been increasing at a CAGR of 4.4% which are majorly transported to GCC, Russia and Afghanistan.

Islamabad (January 28): Iqrar Ahmad Khan, former Vice Chancellor of Agriculture University, called for following the Xinjiang model to improve cotton production in Pakistan.
He was speaking at a live forum jointly organised by China Economic Net and Machinery Engineering Corporation of China to mark the launch of China-Pakistan Agricultural and Industrial Cooperation Information platform.
Khan said that the Xinjiang model was a role model for Pakistan where cotton production is facing serious challenges and annual yield in continuously declining. He said that Pakistan not only needed seeds from China but the whole package of Xinjiang model for enhancing cotton production.
