Taiwan has a relatively complete supply chain for electric vehicle components, and companies such as Tesla rely heavily on Taiwanese suppliers for a majority of their EV parts. Yet the island has not produced a viable EV brand to contend in the global market.
Azizi Tucker first came to Taiwan in 2007 while working for a little-known Electric Vehicle (EV) startup called Tesla Motors. A senior supply development engineer, Tucker was assigned to look for parts and components to build Tesla’s very first vehicle, the Tesla Roadster.

The mothballed Fourth Nuclear Power Plant in New Taipei City’s Gongliao District (貢寮) is “outdated technology,” Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Tseng Wen-sheng (曾文生) said yesterday.
“We cannot solve the problems we will face 10 years from now with technology that is already two decades old,” Tseng told a clean energy forum organized by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (工研院).
With nuclear energy off the table as an option, Tseng proposed other solutions to reduce carbon emissions.

The water conditions in the south are severe. The “Shiguo River” polluted by livestock wastewater in the Huaantuankou and Donggang Creek in Pingtung have also become sources of water for the residents of Kaohsiung. The Fengshan Reservoir, which diverts water from the Donggang River, has increased from 20,000 tons of water for the people’s livelihood in Kaohsiung to 50,000 tons. However, the CEO of the Earth Citizen Foundation, Li Genzheng, said that Donggang Creek is heavily polluted by pig wastewater. The water is treated and then given to people to drink.” Although it is all qualified tap water in the end, it is not reasonable. The government should improve the pollution of Donggang Creek and use clean water for Kaohsiung people to drink.
