Hayward police fatally shot a motorist they say struck police vehicles “multiple times” at a Motel 6 parking lot on Tuesday morning.
Police said the shooting happened as they tried to detain passengers in a blue Volvo with a white paper license plate which matched the description of a car involved in a recent robbery.
Hayward police officers noticed the vehicle on Monday “circling the area” where several robberies had taken place but it sped away when police tried to make contact.
Caltrans Preparing For Full Overnight Closure Of Northbound Interstate 880 For Overpass Repair Work

Caltrans is getting ready to temporarily shut down all northbound lanes of a five-mile stretch of Interstate 880 through Hayward late Saturday evening to accommodate overnight repairs to the damaged Industrial Parkway West overpass.
Northbound lanes of Interstate 880, also known as the Nimitz Freeway, will close at 11 p.m. between Whipple Road and Tennyson Road. The northbound lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. Sunday. The southbound lanes of Interstate 880 will not be affected and will remain open.
Detours will be in place and changeable electronic message signage will be in place as will California Highway Patrol officers to assist and direct motorists.
