KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 8): Malaysia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew 1.7% in December 2020 from a year earlier, driven by growth in the IPI's manufacturing segment as the mining and electricity components dropped. For the full year, the nation's 2020 IPI declined 4.2% from a year earlier for the first time since 2009. In a statement today, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said for December 2020, the IPI's manufacturing segment grew 4.1%.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 Sales from Malaysia’s manufacturing sector rose 4.5 per cent last December, data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) released today showed.
The RM124.6 billion sales value in December was also the sector’s highest since March 2020, which was when the Covid-19 epidemic hit Malaysia in earnest, triggering the first movement control order.
The DOSM data showed the major sub-sectors contributing to manufacturing’s growth in that month were: transport equipment and other manufactures (8.4 per cent), petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (7.7 per cent) and electrical and electronics products (7.6 per cent).

January’s industrial production index in HCM City picked up 34.5% year-on-year as businesses stepped up operations in preparation for the approaching Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.
Marked hikes were seen in wood, bamboo, and rattan processing (excluding beds, wardrobes, tables, and chairs) (up 97.4%), the production of metallic mineral products (87.6%), and motor vehicle manufacturing (86.4%).
Of major industries, electronics expanded 61.9%, pharmaceutical chemistry 51.7%, mechanics 44.3%, and food and beverages 27.3%.
The consumption index of the processing and manufacturing industry in the month increased 37.4% against the same period last year but its stockpile index rose 22.1%.
Nguyen Phuong Dong, Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, said that thanks to COVID-19 prevention and control measures, the southern metropolis has gradually recovered its economic activities.
Sharp decrease in the Industrial Production Index in Palestine during 2020 - PCBS
RAMALLAH, Thursday, February 04, 2021 (WAFA) - The overall Industrial Production Index (IPI) in Palestine decreased in 2020 by 7.95% compared to 2019, today said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).
The sharp decline was due to the decrease in the activities of Mining and Quarrying by 23.07%, and the activities of Manufacturing Industry by 10.46%, while the activities of Electricity, Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning Supply increased by 11.61%, and the activities of Water Supply, Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation increased by 5.98%, said the PCBS.
