Kenya eyes export growth to Korea Farmers in Kenya export under a tonne of bananas and broccoli to Korea, despite bilateral deal enabling trade Related Articles Kenyan farmers exported less than a tonne of bananas and broccoli to Korea this season, despite the two nations having agreed a bilateral deal some five years ago. Business Daily Africa reports the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (Kephis) has attributed the low volumes to lack of awareness from the country’s farmers. The bilateral agreement initiated by Kenya in May 2015 was aimed at easing access to the Korean market for various products. It was a move that saw the country allowed to export unripe banana and broccoli, which would not require pest risk analysis as it is the case with other products.

Kenya s horticulture exports rise to 1.37 bln USD in 2020 Xinhua 04 May 2021, 21:05 GMT+10 NAIROBI, May 4 (Xinhua) Kenya s horticulture exports earnings rose to 148 billion shillings (1.37 billion U.S. dollars) in 2020, up from 1.27 billion dollars recorded in the previous year, a government official said on Tuesday. Benjamin Tito, head of Horticultural Crops Directorate under state corporation the Agriculture and Food Authority, told Xinhua in Nairobi that revenue from the sector increased despite a slight drop in volumes shipped overseas. Tito observed that the country s fresh produce attracted higher prices in overseas markets as lower volumes were available in the international market mainly as a result of the travel restrictions put in place last year to curb the spread of COVID-19.
