14-year-old faces charges in Alabama murder

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) A 14-year-old Alabama boy faces a murder charge in the shooting death of a man last week, authorities said.
The teenager, of Dothan, was taken into custody Wednesday and transported to the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center, a juvenile lockup. Because of the suspect’s age, no identifying information will be released, Dothan Police said in a news release.
The suspect is accused in the April 29 shooting death of Johnnie Settle, 27, also of Dothan, multiple news agencies reported. Settle was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Demetrius Devonte McGhee, 26, of Clayton, is charged with the deaths of three people who were found inside the car on Monday morning.
Law enforcement officers met with McGhee, who was released from an area hospital Monday night, and charged him with four counts of capital murder.

On April 27, Richard Allen Strickland, 55, of Hartford, was sentenced to 87 months (7 years 4 months) in prison for illegal drug distribution, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Sandra J. Stewart. In addition to his prison sentence, Strickland was ordered to serve three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
According to court records, Strickland, a licensed pharmacist, owned and operated Allen’s Pharmacy in Dothan. In November of 2019, the Dothan Police Department Narcotics Division received an anonymous tip regarding someone selling prescription medications without a prescription to individuals from the pharmacy. Further investigation by Dothan PD and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) indicated that Strickland was selling Schedule II controlled substances, including oxycodone and hydrocodone, without a prescription.
