Highland Councillors have paid tribute to roads crews who have been working hard across the region trying to keep routes in the region open.

Wintry weather conditions at the weekend failed to stop nearly 900 people turn up for their Covid-19 vaccination at the latest clinic held at Thurso High School.
A huge team of NHS staff, volunteers and employees from the Highland Council road team helped make Saturday s clinic for over 65s and those in the 16-64 at risk group run like a military operation.

A new support service in the Halkirk community has seen a great response with around 90 requests for free hot meals in the first week.
The Halkirk Village Council was able to start the Covid-19 support for the elderly and vulnerable thanks to finance from the Halkirk and District Benefit Fund. It has really taken off, said Jane MacIntosh, secretary of the village council and also a director of the benefit fund. The uptake has been unbelievable. Everybody is just so grateful, they are just so thankful to the village council and the benefit fund for everything we are doing. It has proven that there is a huge need in the area.

Around 400 patients were given Pfizer vaccinations at the first local clinic which was held in the games hall at Thurso High School on Saturday.
The first patient was former Rolls-Royce worker Pete Rodgers who encouraged others to take up the opportunity.
Describing the clinic as hugely successful , Dr Alison Brooks, of the Thurso and Halkirk Medical Practice, said: With my practice manager, Christine Tait, at the helm, and her very able team, the event was organised with professionalism and precision. Christine had thought of everything from access to parking and everything ran like clockwork.

NORTH MP Jamie Stone was shocked to discover the Scottish Government has not asked the army for help with the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine.
He has written to Scottish health secretary Jeane Freeman asking for a meeting with her and Defence Secretary Ben Wallace as a matter of urgency .
Highlands and Islands Conservative MSP Edward Mountain has made a similar plea to the Scottish Government.
