Ward discretionary approvals in February by Thurso and Northwest Caithness councillors included £1500 for Thurso Community Café towards the purchase of a coffee machine and cooker. They also agreed to give £1428.99 to Thurso Community Development Trust to help with Covid-19 community support. The councillors for both local wards – Thurso and Northwest Caithness, and Wick and East Caithness – approved £1440 for Budding Engineers, a community interest company that supports primary and secondary pupils, and £400 for the Caithness Klics young carers project.

Ten-year-old Lily Richard got creative over the Christmas holidays and made orange scented bath bombs which she sold to family and friends – raising £80 in the process. Lily then decided to donate the money to Caithness Foodbank and contacted the organisation to find out what items were needed. 10-year-old Lily Richard went around Wick Tesco to purchase items for Caithness Foodbank in Wick.

Pupils at Bower Primary School have been gathering gifts to support Thurso Community Café in providing care boxes to those in need. These were collected by Ann Brock from the community café, one of the school s parents. She will make up packages for those who are vulnerable and facing financial difficulties – ensuring that local people have the opportunity to receive something special this festive season.
