SummerGlen residents fret about 841-home development planned next door

In southwest Marion County, tucked between the sprawling Marion Oaks community to the west and Interstate 75 to the east, Southwest 20th Avenue Road is lined with mostly small cattle ranches and mid-size horse farms. Just south of these rural farms sits a 221-acre parcel, with for-sale signs on billboards facing I-75. That property is poised to become an 841-home family development, adjacent to and north of the gated SummerGlen retirement community. Located on Southwest 20th Avenue Road, 2.2 miles south of County Road 484, SummerGlen is a great place to live because it s so peaceful just outside the development, residents told planning and zoning officials this week.

Ocala s anti-panhandling ordinance challenged by ACLU lawsuit

A U.S. District Court judge ruled in the plaintiffs favor, stating the city could not arrest or cite homeless people for sleeping outside without first checking to see if they were any available beds at an emergency shelter. In response, City Council unanimously agreed to adopt the ordinance so that it is in line with the federal ruling.  Violating the right to free speech As for the newest lawsuit: In a news release, the plaintiffs said the city and its police force are criminalizing the act of asking for help. Meanwhile, people who engage in similar conduct, such as asking for petition signatures, are not targeted.
