There s a story making the rounds in the national news about a lot of the puppies and kittens that got adopted in the early days of the pandemic that are now making their way back to the animal shelters because the people that adopted them are going back to work and don t have the time to take care of them any more.
Fortunately that does not seem to be the case in Wichita Falls.
When the lockdowns began, people started missing interactions with other people and decided it was a good time to adopt a new pet. In fact the pet adoption rate rose 12% across the country. It rose in the Wichita Falls area, too. Cheryl Heineken with the Humane Society of Wichita County told Texoma s Homepage that they were a little concerned at the start but that we ve not had any kind of increase in returns in our area.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - Paige Morgan with the City of Wichita Falls Animal Services joined Brian Shrull during our newscast at noon to talk about pet adoption.
They were joined by a cat named Lexie who is in need of a forever home.
Lexie is a one to two-year-old cat who loves to cuddle.
The Animal Services Center is located at 1207 Hatton Road and they’re currently open by appointment only.

The adoption fee for cats is $40 and you have to prepay for spays and neutering at your veterinarian.

Wichita Falls Animal Services posted a photo on Facebook of a husky named Sky along with shelter employee Zackry Majewski in an effort to find the dog a forever home. But many viewers became more interested in the handsome employee. You might want to do adopt a dog and get a free evening with Zac.the shelter will be cleared out in 20 minutes! wrote one commenter.
