Five entities in Worcester including UMass Medical School and the Family Health Center of Worcester have received a share of nearly $9 million in state funding announced Thursday to help people access coronavirus vaccines in hard-hit communities.
Those two recipients were joined by Worcester counterparts AIDS Project Worcester, Centro and Seven Hills Behavioral Health among roughly two dozen such groups statewide that are being relied upon to help increase awareness and access to vaccines in 20 of the hardest-hit Massachusetts communities, including Fitchburg, Framingham, Leominster and Worcester.
Each organization will use its share of the funding to provide guidance about vaccine eligibility, assistance in registering online and translation services, among others. In some cases, the organizations will directly administer vaccinations to groups not available through other outreach efforts.
