Lehigh Valley teachers and other school employees are set to begin receiving the COVID-19 vaccine on Friday at a clinic hosted by Colonial Intermediate Unit 20.
The IU’s Colonial Academy outside Wind Gap has been set up for the Pennsylvania National Guard and state contractor AMI Healthcare LLC to administer the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine through March 19.
Set to receive the vaccine at the clinic are about 4,500 eligible school employees and contractors from the public and non-public local education agencies served by Colonial IU 20.

Presidents’ Day is celebrated the third Monday of February.
This year, the holiday falls on Monday, Feb. 15. Originally, it marked the birthday of George Washington, on Feb. 22. But the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which took effect in 1971, switched the commemoration (along with Columbus Day and Memorial Day) to the Monday holiday.
The federal government continues to recognize the third Monday in February as Washington’s Birthday, but because states are not obliged to adopt federal holidays, the date can vary.
