Charisse Ates of East Orange was killed in a Wednesday night shooting in Newark, authorities said Thursday. She was 38 years old.
Ates was on the 100 block of South 8th Street when she was shot, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said
She was taken to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead just before 9:40 p.m.

2 men arrested in weekend killing of Newark man

Police have arrested two Newark men in connection with the fatal shooting of a city man Sunday, authorities said.
On Monday, police arrested Johaun Cook, 35, and Altariq Sanders, 32, both of Newark, and charged them with multiple crimes, including reckless manslaughter, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said in a statement.
The duo had been sought for the fatal shooting of Sherome Hubbard, 24, also of Newark.
Police found Hubbard shot inside a home on the 200 block of Fairmount Avenue on Sunday, authorities said. He was taken to University Hospital and was pronounced dead at 6:42 p.m. that same day.
