SHREVEPORT, La. -Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced that James Coleman, 44, of Ringgold, Louisiana, was sentenced by United States District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote to 132 months (11years) in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, for conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Coleman was involved in a drug trafficking organization that was selling illegal narcotics and was charged in a federal indictment with drug offenses. The investigation that led to these charges began in January 2017. Law enforcement agents learned that Coleman and others were distribu
Lafayette, LA Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced that Robert Hjortsberg of New Orleans, Louisiana, pleaded guilty today in United States District Court in New Orleans, to one count of willful failure to file a tax return.
According to documents presented at the guilty plea hearing, Hjortsberg was employed as an attorney at the Jason R. Williams Law Firm in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2017. Hjortsberg and his spouse were required to file an income tax return for the 2017 tax year by October 15, 2018. He failed to file a return by that date even though he knew he was required to do so. Hjortsberg did not file his return for the 2017 tax year until July 28, 2020.

Van Hook announced that three men from South Louisiana were sentenced for illegally possessing firearms by United States District Judge James D. Cain, Jr.Jaquan Smith, 27, of Houma, Louisiana, was sentenced to 24 months in prison, followed by 3years of supervised release, for illegal possession of an unregistered firearm. On October 10, 2018, law enforcement officers in Jennings, Louisiana stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in which Smith was a passenger.
