Christopher Maier, who served as the Pentagon s Defeat ISIS Task Force director between March 2017 and November 2020, will return to the Defense Department after the inauguration as the acting civilian overseeing special operations forces, according to the three officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the subject.
