THE NUMBER of coronavirus cases is above the national average in all parts of Basingstoke apart from one. Kempshott is the only area of the town that has a rolling rate, the number of new cases per 100,000 of the population, that is below the England average. And despite lockdown restrictions, the virus is still spreading fast in two parts of the town, putting them among the worst category. Viables and Basingstoke Central, Black Dam & Eastrop have rolling rates higher than 800. Viables, which includes much of Cranbourne, southern Brighton Hill and the industrial estates, has a rolling rate of 1,123.5, and has seen 88 new cases in the seven days to January 11 - the most recent data available.
