Violence has escalated in recent days, with rockets fired at Israeli cities from the Gaza Strip and the Israeli military carrying out retaliatory air strikes in Gaza. Media reports said civilians have been killed on both sides. Firefighters are still working to control the large fire blazing the trans-Israel energy pipeline in Ashkelon, after a rocket from Gaza hit a container [tank] at the plant during the rocket fire Tuesday evening, The Jerusalem Post reported.
The 600,000 b/d crude pipeline connects the Red Sea port city of Eilat in southern Israel to the Mediterranean port city of Ashkelon. There are also separate pipelines running between Ashkelon and the nearby refinery in Ashdod, and between Ashkelon and the Haifa refinery.

As the new chapter of deadly Israeli-Palestinian strife escalated on Wednesday and reverberated around the world, nations reacted with words of caution and condemnation, some accusing Israel of disproportionate use of force, and others defending Israeli s right to defend itself.
Protests were held in a number of cities on Tuesday night. In some Gulf Nations that have taken major steps toward normalizing relations with Israel in recent months, condemnation of the country’s airstrikes on Gaza was widespread.
In Kuwait, protesters gathered outside the Parliament building and blocked streets on Tuesday night as they rallied against Israel’s actions, according to local reports and pictures from the scene posted on social media.

Meanwhile, the UN warned of the potential for full-scale war as questions have been raised about Israel s tactics.
Dozens of Palestinians, including 14 children, have been killed this week. At least 6 Israelis have been killed.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday defended Israel amid a recent escalation of violence with Palestine that has sparked fears of a broader conflict. The state of Israel has every right of self-defense. Its national security leaders have continued to display restraint, McConnell said in a Senate floor speech.

Gaza, May 12 (EFE).- The death toll from exchanges of airstrikes and rocket fire between Israel and militant groups in the Gaza Strip climbed again on Wednesday, as the United Nations’ Middle East envoy warned of “full-scale war.”
At least 48 people, including 14 children and three women, have been killed in the Israeli airstrikes, the Gazan health ministry said on Wednesday. More than 300 people have been wounded.
Israeli defense officials said militants in Gaza fired an anti-tank missile into Israel on Wednesday, which killed one person and wounded two, one of whom is in a serious condition.
