View Comments The Statesman Journal has hired a reporter to cover agricultural workers in the Mid-Willamette Valley in collaboration with Report for America, which will partially fund the position. Report For America is a 501 (c) nonprofit national service program this year is placing 300 journalists in more than 200 local news organizations across 49 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and Guam. The journalists will report on under-covered issues and communities. An initiative of The GroundTruth Project, the program places talented journalists in newsrooms across the country to meet an identified gap in local coverage.  Dora Totoian will focus on reporting solutions-related stories about agricultural workers in the Mid-Valley. Totoian will cover the people who plant, maintain and harvest crops, cultivating and harvesting food during the pandemic, and the availability of workers for farmers and producers to hire.
