Motorists will encounter slick roads with black ice starting Wednesday evening throughout most of central and southern Wyoming, with heavy snow possible and poor visibility especially in Fremont County, according to the Riverton office of the National Weather Service.
The Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory and a winter storm warning for much of southeastern Wyoming for the next several days.
Likewise, the Weather Service has issued winter storm watches for the Star Valley and the Wind River Mountains and the Lander foothills through Thursday afternoon.
Snow will develop over southern Wyoming tonight and move north into central Wyoming by Wednesday morning.
Roughly two in five Teton County residents are fully vaccinated.
Thatâs almost double the statewide rate, according to Wyoming Department of Health data. Despite the rosy numbers, however, any threshold of community protection isnât worth much if itâs only at the county level.
âUntil the whole state and the people that are traveling here are fully vaccinated, you personally might be safer, but that doesnât mean that we can get this pandemic behind us,â county Director of Health Jodie Pond said.
Still, the numbers are an encouraging sign that the county is charging forward in its vaccination campaign. The Wyoming Health Department now publishes county-level immunization estimates, and Teton County has a much higher rate than any other in Wyoming at 39.72% as of Tuesday afternoon, though that data may lag by up to 72 hours.
◆ Star Valley FFA has provided a state officer only five times in 30 years.
It is a rare and thrilling moment when a Star Valley FFA chapter member takes an office with the Wyoming State FFA Association. Star Valley has experienced such a thrill only five times in the last 30 years.
It is even more rare and thrilling when two candidates from Star Valley are selected to serve as state officers back-to-back. That has happened only once – until now. April 9, 2021 was one of those truly extraordinary days when Star Valley FFA witnessed history.
On that momentous day, Star Valley High School Senior Katie Vigil stepped across the stage at the Wyoming State FFA Convention to take office as the new 2nd Vice President for 2021-2022 as Dani Erickson, SVHS 2020 graduate, stepped down from her office as Wyoming State FFA Secretary 2020-2021.
It has been more than a year since the Star Valley Town Council discussed putting streetlights along State Route 260 through Star Valley. Now it appears illumination is not so far down the tunnel.
At its April 6 meeting, Tim Grier, town manager/attorney, gave the council an update on the streetlight project. He said that the Arizona Department of Transportation has approved a permit for the town and APS to put lights along the road. He added he was in contact with APS regarding moving forward with the project.
The initial preparation work should be completed within the next week or so â digging the holes for the poles. APS will then come in and set the poles.
