The water levels rose quickly and in some cases, came dangerously close to homes in the Needville area.
Sybil Henry has lived in the area for about 30 years. She said her homes have flooded three times since 2017.
“What we started doing is picking up everything off the floor. I had blocks made 2×4′s so that if it rains I can easily put my furniture on the blocks,” Henry said.
Needville Mayor Andre Bohac estimates that 10% of residents had water in their homes. He said one of the hardest-hit areas was near Beasley and Church Street.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - As a fire ripped through an Irmo apartment complex, one mother, Shawnteal Boyd, made a potentially lifesaving but dangerous decision: dropping her one-month-old infant and one-year-old child from her third-story apartment to bystanders below.
“I was thinking, ‘oh my gosh, how did anyone make it out of there alive?’” Boyd’s mother Stephanie McGraw said.
McGraw helped care for her daughter’s children along with the children’s great grandparents at their home in Columbia after the fire. The fire displaced 35 people and damaged 10 units of the River Oaks Apartment complex.

IRMO, S.C. (WIS) - Two days before Christmas, 35 people were left homeless by an apartment fire in Irmo.
The Irmo Fire Department says they faced a horrific scene when they arrived at River Oaks Apartments on Wednesday afternoon.
“Our nightmare when we pull up on a fire is having a fire blowing out of the roof on all sides of the building and having people hanging out of windows and that’s exactly what we showed up to,” Operations Chief Sloane Valentino said.
