River Road ISD Board passes face covering-related resolution

During Monday’s regular meeting of the River Road Independent School District Board of Trustees, the board approved a resolution helping the district see the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the face coverings requirement.  Starting May 30, the date of the district’s graduation ceremony, students, staff and visitors to any of the campuses, or any event, in River Road ISD will not be required to wear face coverings. Because the school year ends May 28, the current face covering requirement will remain through the end of the school year.  However, the graduation ceremony, occurring at 3 p.m. May 30 at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex, will be the first district event in the 2020-21 school year where face coverings will be optional for every attendee.

River Road ISD board approves House Bill Three academic goals

During a recent meeting of the River Road Independent School District Board of Trustees, district officials continued to look forward, officially putting academic goals in place to help the district grow in a few specific areas in three to five years.  These goals grew out of House Bill Three, a school finance bill passed by the Texas Legislature in 2019. According to the Texas Education Agency’s website, the bill provides more money for classrooms, increases teacher pay and cuts property taxes for Texas residents.  River Road Superintendent Richard Kelley said the bill also provides the opportunity for school boards to be more involved in the creation of academic goals.
