ALTON Weekly fireworks are planned this summer in Alton and Grafton by the Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau of Southwest Illinois.
The fireworks shows will go off simultaneously at 9 p.m. every Thursday from June 3 to Sept. 9, except on Thursday, July 1.
“We are celebrating our summer travel season and encourage people to get out and explore our region,” said Cory Jobe, President and CEO of the Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau.

The Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau is partnering with the Spirit of Peoria to offer a series of Mississippi River cruises this summer and fall. Returning this year is the interactive Murder Mystery Dinner Cruise featuring the cast of Alton Little Theater. You can also enjoy a relaxing sightseeing cruise several times between July 14 and October 6.
Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau President and CEO Cory Jobe tells The Big Z there are others coming to the area as well, namely the Viking cruises which will be docking in St. Louis.

ALTON, Ill. Thursday nights on the Great River Road along the Mississippi River this summer are going to be brighter than usual.
The Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau of Southwest Illinois is starting a series of fireworks events in Alton and Grafton, Illinois, every Thursday night from June 2 to Sept. 9 with the exception of July 1. Fireworks will launch simultaneously in each city at approximately 9 p.m.
The tourism bureau is encouraging businesses in Alton and Grafton to create specials and deals on Thursdays to incentivize people to come and check out the fireworks and spend time in the area. Specials will be highlighted at RiversandRoutes.com.
Grafton Ferry open for season

GRAFTON The Grafton Ferry has resumed operations for the season.
Use of the ferry which can accommodate personal vehicles, buses and vans cuts travel time between Missouri and Illinois by about 30 minutes. People are allowed to get out of their vehicles during the river crossing.
“Everything is ready to go,” said Denise Knight of Calhoun Ferry Co., which operates the Grafton Ferry.
The ferry will run from 2 to 10 p.m. Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
